ANNOUNCEMENT: Beware of Fraudulent Emails

Please be vigilant when you receive emails from colleagues, with strange requests.

Today there were two instances where MIBCO employees received emails from a formally employed person, that turned out to be a scam. The email was sent without the knowledge of the former employee.

Requests via email may include personal information, log in credentials, even requests to make payments. In extreme cases impersonation attacks can seem like someone, such as your manager, require you to break a policy.

When you receive an email from someone, always check if the name of the person corresponds with the email address. In many cases one can derive the name of the sender from the email address.

When you are in doubt whether an email is legitimate or not, contact the sender by alternative means, such as telephone, SMS or WhatsApp to confirm if they sent the email.

Falling for the traps that these cyber criminals set for you can result in personal loss, loss for MIBCO or reputation damage.

The best course of action is not to respond to these emails at all. When you receive such an email, please send it to the IT Helpdesk. We will ensure that the email address gets blacklisted.

Please be careful. Thank you for being vigilant.

Remember, you are the first line of defense to ensure that our systems and your personal details are safe.

Regards,

IT Team
